BSc Urban Planning & Development

The Urban Planning and Development BSc course at Cardiff University is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the current and past principles of urban planning and development. Through this program, students will gain a sound academic base upon which they can build their professional careers in planning and related areas.Course Content: The course emphasizes upon understanding and managing the physical and social transformations within cities. Students will cover a broad range and depth of knowledge, from the theoretical to the practical, with courses in urban form and space, policy environments, planning and delivery mechanisms as well as environmental sustainability. The Scholars Programme within the course offers students the chance to gain placement experience and apply their learning in a professional context.Key Modules: Some of the key modules within the course include Sustainable Cities, Spatial Analysis, Design Principles, Regeneration Policies, Development Management, Professional Skills, Integrated Planning Project, Regulatory Policy and Practice, and Reflections on Practice.Accreditations: The course is fully accredited by the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and is recognised by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), leading to chartered status. Future Careers: Upon graduating, students are well-prepared for a career in urban planning and development, city planning, spatial planning, regional planning, or in related areas such as transport planning, environmental planning, and urban regeneration.
