The English Literature and Welsh BA course at Cardiff University offers students the opportunity to delve into a broad range of English literature complemented by the study of Welsh, which may either be taken as a beginner or as a second language learner. It is a full-time undergraduate course that takes three years to complete.Course Content: Students are presented with a wide variety of literature reading lists stretching from the Early Middle Ages to the present day. As part of the Welsh component, students either start as beginners or continue on from school or college, and follow the same clearly structured pathway to fluency in both spoken and written Welsh.Key Modules: The course offers a wide range of topics including Medieval English texts, English poetry and prose of the 16th and 17th centuries, the literature of the Gothic, the literature of the American South, modern American writing, and modernist writing. In addition, the curriculum includes modules in practical translation and language skills, and Welsh-language literature from the early twentieth century to the present day.Accreditations: The English component of the degree is accredited by the English Association.Future Careers: Graduates from this course have excellent prospects, with many going on to work in publishing, journalism, media, teaching, advertising, and the civil service.
