The English Language and Welsh BA course offered by Cardiff University is a distinctive three-year degree that allows students to gain a deep understanding of both the English and Welsh languages. By participating in this course, students will have an opportunity to combine their curiosity about the English language with their passion for Welsh language and culture.Course Content: The first year of this course provides a balanced introduction to both English language and Welsh, with the second and third years offering a range of modules allowing a specialization in one or both subjects. Students will get to explore the structure, history, and use of the English language, while also examining the Welsh language in literature, its community, and in the workplace. Alongside these, students also get a chance to undertake work placements, allowing them to apply their classroom knowledge in the real world.Key Modules: Some of the key modules for English include Phonetics, Linguistic Variation in English, Child Language Development, and Language in the Media. For Welsh, key modules include Welsh Language (for beginners and experienced), Palaeography and the editing of old texts, Patagonian Welsh, and Welsh Work Experience Placement.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol for teaching at least 40 credits per year through the Welsh language.Future Careers: Graduates of this course are well-prepared for a wide range of careers including translation, teaching, publishing, marketing, journalism, law, public relations, and human resources.
