BA (Hons) Modern Languages 

The BA (Hons) Modern Languages course offered by the University of Portsmouth is designed for students passionate about understanding and learning different languages. This comprehensive program prepares students with advanced language skills and a deepened cultural understanding of the languages they choose to focus on.Course Content: Throughout the course, students will study two or three languages, with the choice including French, Spanish, Italian, German and Applied languages. The course extensively focuses on developing students' language skills, cultural understanding, and independent research skills. It also offers optional units exploring areas such as translation or teaching English as a foreign language.Key Modules: Some of the key course units include Understanding Modern Languages, Intercultural Communication, Spanish Language for Professionals, German Language for Economists, and Applied Languages. Along with these, students have optional modules like Film and Cinema, Language and the City, and Understanding European Identities.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the University of Portsmouth. Upon completion, students can also work towards chartered status with the Charted Institute of Linguists (CIOL) or achieve internationally-recognised exams in the Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language.Future Careers: This course prepares students for a diverse array of careers such as teaching, interpreting, translating, roles in multinational companies, and working in governmental and non-governmental organizations.
