BA (Hons) English and Creative Writing 

The BA (Hons) English and Creative Writing course at the University of Portsmouth equips students with a strong command of the English language and a keen understanding of how great works of literature and creative writing are created and received. This degree combines the study of English literature with the chance to develop your creative writing skills in classes taught by practicing and published authors.Course Content: The course is made up of a combination of lectures, seminars, and one-on-one tutorials. Core areas studied include Understanding Literature, Creative Writing, English Language and Linguistics, and Literary Studies. The course also includes optional units, allowing students to cater the course towards their individual interests or career paths. Students will also undertake a final year project where they can focus on a topic they are passionate about.Key Modules: Throughout the course, key modules will include Intro to Creative Writing, Intro to Writing Fiction, Intro to Writing Poetry, and Professional Writing Skills. In the final year, students will undertake the Independent Study Project (ISP) or a Work-based project in a relevant field.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the National Association of Writers in Education (NAWE), a national organization that promotes and supports the work of writers in higher education.Future Careers: This course prepares students for a range of roles in industries such as advertising, marketing, arts administration, journalism, teaching, publishing and scriptwriting.
