BA (Hons) Creative Writing 

The University of Portsmouth offers BA (Hons) Creative Writing, a dynamic, forward-looking programme with devoted tutors and engaged and inspired peers that helps you become a flexible and versatile practitioner, adept with both traditional and digital media. The course takes a transmedia approach to the creative arts, focusing on developing your skills and talents through a variety of professional creative writing disciplines, combining theory with intense practical work.Course Content: The course aims to make you a well-rounded writer, enhancing your theoretical understanding alongside your practical abilities to produce high-quality work for a variety of creative and professional contexts. You'll gain thorough experience in writing prose, poetry, broadcasting, scriptwriting, and creative non-fiction, and you will also have opportunities to experiment with other forms of writing. Additionally, you will study the work of established writers and critics, to learn how to give and receive criticism of work, and to develop important editorial skills.Key Modules: The modules you will study include Essential Journalism, Transmedia Storytelling and Production, Screenwriting: Craft and Creativity, Professional Writing, Experimental Writing, and The Freelance Marketplace.Accreditations: The course is based on the National Association of Writers’ Groups (NAWG) and the Professional Writing Academy (PWA) structure of approach, which recognizes a broad spectrum of writing disciplines from commercial to literary texts.Future Careers: This creative writing undergraduate course gives you the skills and confidence to succeed in industries such as publishing, entertainment, media, marketing, and advertising. Many of our graduates work in writing, but others have found roles in fields including public relations, copywriting, teaching, and business management.
