The BA (Hons) Childhood and Youth Studies with Criminology course at the University of Portsmouth merges the investigation of juveniles' issues and the role of community in crime prevention with an understanding of various criminological theories and methodologies. This undergraduate course is designed to provide students with a broad understanding of childhood and youth combined with a comprehensive study of criminology. It enables students to explore key issues related to children's rights, welfare, crime, and justice, and understand the mechanisms of the criminal justice system.Course Content: This course is divided into three years of study. In each year, students will get exposure to different aspects of childhood and youth studies and criminology. Students will analyze and evaluate current policy, practice and provision, investigating notions of childhood, independence, rights, participation and the concept of the child within society. Key Modules: The key modules consist of 'The Developing Child', 'Starting to Study Childhood and Youth', 'Investigating Childhood and Youth', 'Introduction to Criminological Theory', 'Criminal Justice: Process, Policy, Practice', 'Penology and Victimology', 'Young People and Social Change: Policy and Practice', amongst others through years 1 to 3.Accreditations: The course is delivered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Portsmouth, a member of the Russell Group which represents 24 leading UK universities.
