BSW Social Work

The BSW in Social Work at Queen's University Belfast is a dynamic program designed to provide students with a deep understanding of the principles, knowledge, and skills used in social work practice. These skills include learning how to assess, intervene and review social work practices, and developing a research-minded approach to social work. This program prepares students for a career in social work by providing foundational knowledge in social policy, law, human growth, and communication skills. Course Content: The course content includes intensive study of social work theory and methods, social policy, law for social work, understanding human behavior, social research, therapeutic approaches, group and community work, and ethics and values. Students also have the opportunity to complete two professional practice placements. Key Modules: The key modules of this program include Understanding Social Work I and II, Theorising Social Work I and II, Therapeutic Communication, Human Behavior and Development in Context, Issues in Social Policy, Law for Social Work, and two practice learning opportunities. Accreditations: This BSW in Social Work is professionally accredited by the Northern Ireland Social Care Council (NISCC). Upon successful completion of the course, students will satisfy the eligibility requirements to register as a social worker with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Future Careers: Graduates of this program can pursue a career in a wide range of avenues within the social work sector, such as children's services, mental health services, physical and learning disability services, community care services, probation, criminal justice services, and non-governmental organizations.
