The MSc Atmosphere, Oceans and Climate course offered by the University of Reading is an advanced scientific study programme. It provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the physical processes governing the Earth’s atmosphere, oceans and climate.Course Content: The course covers various areas including tropical troposphere and stratosphere, weather systems, Middle Atmosphere, radiation principles, numerical weather prediction, data assimilation and chaos theory, surface exchanges of momentum, heat and gases, climate dynamics of the tropics and extratropics, and oceanography. This rigorous academic programme involves a mix of lectures, laboratory practicals, fieldwork, and tutorials. There will also be an independent research project which offers an opportunity to specialize in a topic of your choice.Key Modules: The principal modules include Atmosphere and Ocean Climate Change, Boundary Layer Processes, Tropical Atmosphere and the Oceans, Weather Systems and Forecasts, Climate of the Extratropics and Tropics, Key Skills for Climate and Weather Scientists, and Observations and Analysis of Weather and Climate. There's also an optional module in Data Assimilation and Inverse Methods in Meteorology and Oceanography.Accreditations: The course is accredited by both the Royal Meteorological Society and the Institution of Environmental Sciences.Future Careers: Graduates from this programme can pursue a career in various fields including research positions in universities or government laboratories, operational meteorology and weather forecasting, environmental consultancy, environmental management and policy making, or risk analysis in the insurance industry.
