The BSc Pharmacology with a Year in Industry course, offered by the University of Reading, is designed to provide students with a deep understanding of Pharmacology principles and methods. This course allows students to gain practical experience during a one-year long industry placement, where they can apply the theoretical knowledge gained during the initial two years of the course.Course Content: Over the course of three years, students will study modules on drug discovery, biotechnology and the nervous system, attend practical laboratory sessions and complete a one-year industry placement. The first two years focus on developing key knowledge in cellular and molecular biology, pharmacology, biochemistry, and genetics. In the final year, students return to university to complete advanced modules and a research project.Key Modules: Core modules that students will study throughout the course include Molecules, Genes and Cells, Systems Physiology, Basic Pharmacology, Drug discovery, Biotechnology, and Nervous System. Optional modules cover a range of topics including Immunology, Microbiology, and Pathology.Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Graduates from this course usually are successful at securing roles in pharmaceutical industries, biotechnological companies, hospitals, universities, and regulatory agencies.
