The BSc Biomedical Sciences with Professional Experience at the University of Reading is a comprehensive course that offers students a thorough understanding of the human body at the molecular, cellular and systems levels. This course also provides a placement year, to develop professional skills in a working environment. Course Content: The course covers basic biology in the first year, before enabling students to specialise in more advanced topics such as medical genetics, medical microbiology, neuroscience, toxicology, cancer biology, and cardio-respiratory and renal physiology in subsequent years. All students carry out a research project in their final year.Key Modules: This course includes modules like Cells, Tissues and Organisms, Genes and Chromosomes, Anatomy and Histology, Exploring Microbiology and Infection, Chemistry of Life, and Biological Chemistry.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting, in part, the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Graduates of this course can opt for a wide range of careers including, in sector-specific scientific jobs in laboratory and research roles (often through further professional training), and in a wide range of other roles such as teaching, marketing, computing and environmental health.
