The BA Museum Studies and Archaeology with Study Year Abroad is a four-year course offered by the University of Reading. The programme invites students to study the role of museums in society, the presentation and interpretation of material culture, and the analytical techniques used in archaeology. A distinct feature of the course is spending the third year studying abroad at partner institutions across the globe. Course Content: This course aims to give students a broad understanding of museum studies and archaeological methods, with a focus on the interpretation of material culture. Students also develop practical skills, such as object handling, conservation, and exhibition planning. Additionally, students will get the opportunity to study a range of subjects such as Art, Perception and Material Culture, The Archaeology of the Roman World, Digital Imaging and Standards in Museums during their year abroad. Key Modules: Some of the key modules that students will study during the course include Collections Care and Management, and Material Culture: Reception, Display and Interpretation. In year two, Migration in Archaeology and Making Museums Work are essential modules. In the final year, besides the study abroad programme, students will choose from a range of Archaeology modules that include a field school and a dissertation project. Future Careers: Graduates of this course have gone on to have successful careers in a range of fields including museum and heritage work, commercial archaeology, education, the civil service, and business.
