The BA Archaeology and Anthropology with Study Year Abroad course at the University of Reading combines the study of the human past with the study of humanity, giving students a unique and broad understanding of what makes us human. The programme allows students to spend an entire year studying archaeology and/or anthropology in another country, immersing them in diverse cultures and perspectives.Course Content: The course covers key concepts in both subjects and provides students with opportunities to work on real-life projects in the UK and abroad. In the first year, students will familiarise themselves with the basics of archaeology and anthropology. In the second year, students delve deeper into these disciplines, refining their theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The third year of study is a study year abroad at one of our partner universities, giving students an invaluable international experience. In the final year, students focus on their chosen specialisms and work on their final project.Key Modules: During the course, students will study modules such as 'Archaeology in the World', 'Being Human: Evolution and Prehistory', 'Archaeological Fieldwork', 'Human Evolutionary Anatomy', 'Archaeology and Anthropology of Hunter-Gatherers', amongst others. Optional modules offered cover a broad range of topics including Art and Society, Digital Archaeology, Modern Greek History, Gods, Death and Burial, Climate Change Archaeology, Ethnomusicology, etc.Future Careers: Graduates from this course can look forward to a myriad of career opportunities. These include heritage and tourism, museums and conservation, field archaeology, teaching, the civil service, non-governmental organisations, and business.
