MA History of Political Thought & Intellectual History

The History of Political Thought and Intellectual History MA at Queen Mary University of London is a one-year full-time or two-year part-time course that provides students with a deep understanding of key currents of thought that have shaped the modern world. This program equips students with the analytical skills to interpret, understand, and critically engage with political thought, both historical and contemporary.Course Content: The MA History of Political Thought and Intellectual History will provide students with an in-depth knowledge of the central ideas of constitutionalism, democracy, liberalism, nationalism, and rights. The course will focus on thinkers such as Rousseau, Kant, Hegel, Marx, Locke, Mill, and Nietzsche, but also covers key contemporary theorists including Arendt, Hayek, and Rawls.Key Modules: This course includes a range of modules from which students can choose based on their interests. These include Approaches to Intellectual History and Issues in Contemporary Political Theory. There are electives like Modern Political Thought: Anglo-American Tradition Since Mill, From God to Gaia: 1000 Years of Varieties of Non-Human Thought, and Introduction to Postcolonial Studies.Accreditations: This course is fully accredited and awarded by Queen Mary University of London.
