MSc Big Data

The Big Data course at the University of the West of Scotland is designed to provide students with the understanding and expertise needed to deal with large-scale data. The course employs a hands-on approach where students apply their learning to real-world problems featuring big data. The course is available for both full-time and part-time students and has start dates in September and January.Course Content: The Big Data course covers areas like Big Data theory and practice, Data Mining and Visualisation, and Cloud Systems and Applications. Throughout the course, students will learn to use industry-standard tools, such as Apache Spark, to handle and analyze big data. Students can also undertake a major practical project, resulting in a comprehensive technical report.Key Modules: The main components of this course include Big Data Landscape, Big Data Theory and Practice, Practical Data Analysis and Reporting, Data Mining and Visualisation, Cloud Systems and Applications, Research Design and Methods, and MSc Project.Accreditations: The MSc Big Data is accredited by the British Computer Society, the Chartered Institute for IT, for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.Future Careers: This course prepares students for careers in areas where major corporate and public-sector companies are addressing their big data needs.
