BSc (Hons) Physics with Education

The BSc (Hons) Physics with Education is a unique undergraduate course offered by the University of the West of Scotland (UWS). This course innovatively combines the study of physics with practice-based study of teaching and learning. It is aimed at students who may be interested in a career in physics-related industry or interested in teaching at secondary school level.Course Content: The course offers a solid foundation in the principles and practices of physics alongside a study of education which includes school placements. Year 1 covers an introduction to Physics and the ability to analyse and reflect on learning within a professional teacher education context. In Year 2, students will be introduced to the theories of learning and teaching as well as Quantum Physics and Atomic Structures. The 3rd year includes a school placement, alongside modules on Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics and Elementary Particles. The final year includes Advanced School Placement and explores Quantum mechanics, solid state physics and nuclear physics.Key Modules: Introducing Professional Education & Physics, Theories of Learning for Secondary Education, School Placement, Introduction to Quantum Physics, Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics, Advanced School Placement, Nuclear Physics.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the General Teaching Council of Scotland (GTCS).Future Careers: Graduation from this course offers a range of career opportunities.
