The Forensic Science course at the University of the West of Scotland is built on a solid platform of the physical and life sciences, augmented by specialist forensic modules. The course focuses on practical experience in forensic investigation, laboratory and analytical science, modern crime scene processing, court skills, and research methodologies. A particular focus is placed on enhancing skills that are directly applicable to the workforce.Course Content: The course content covers areas like analytical chemistry, genetics, biochemistry, and cellular biology. It also covers forensic anthropology and archeology, forensic biology, pathology and toxicology, digital forensics, forensic identification and crime scene investigation, and various components of criminalistics. Students are expected to work on their own original research project in their final year.Key Modules: The key modules consist of Cellular Biology and Genetics, Analytical Chemistry and Research Techniques 1 & 2 in first year; Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Forensic and Analytical Chemistry, and Forensic Anthropology in second year; Forensic Pathology, Forensic Toxicology, and Molecular Forensic Science in third year; and Advanced Forensic Science, Forensic Identification, and Forensic Research Project in fourth year.Accreditations: This degree is accredited by The Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences.Future Careers: Graduates work in a wide variety of roles within forensic and general science laboratories, industry and commerce, teaching at various levels, and further research and studies.
