The MSoCW in Social Work at the University of York is an integrated undergraduate and postgraduate degree intended to prepare students for professional practice in social work. The course is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality care and services to the community. It equips practitioners with a broad base of skills and knowledge, ensuring they can work in a range of settings. Course Content: The four-year full-time course combines university-based study with two separate periods of hands-on experience in social work settings. Students will acquire skills and methodologies in interpersonal practice, social work theories and legislation, behavioural sciences, and research. There are also opportunities for developing expertise in areas such as child welfare, mental health, and adult social care. Key Modules: Key areas of study in the Social Work course include Developing Skills for Professional Practice, Introduction to Law for Social Work, Understanding Research, Adult Social Work Practice, and Child and Family Social Work. Accreditations: The MSoCW in Social Work is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and graduates are eligible to register as a social worker with the HCPC.Future Careers: After successful completion of the course, graduates can go on to work in a wide range of health and social care environments such as the NHS, local authorities, voluntary organisations and the private sector.
