The MSci in Data Science at the University of York is a multidisciplinary course that combines statistical analysis, data management, computer science, and machine learning. It aims to provide students with a sound understanding of the principles and techniques of data science and offers the opportunity to develop these in a research or industrial context.Course Content: The course covers all areas of data science including mathematical and computational principles, big data infrastructure, data mining, and machine learning. Students will learn how to extract insights from large, complex data sets, convert data into knowledge, and make decisions based on this. They will also develop their skills in Python, R, and SQL, allowing them to manipulate, visualize, and analyze data.Key Modules: The key modules of the course include Statistics and Probability, Programming and Problem Solving, Databases, Data Mining and Machine Learning, Data Visualisation, and Big Data Infrastructure. In the final year, students will undertake a research project, enabling them to apply their learning to a current data science problem.Accreditations: This MSci in Data Science is accredited by the British Computer Society, The Chartered Institute for IT for the purposes of fully meeting the academic requirement for registration as a Chartered IT Professional.Future Careers: The course equips students for a career in a variety of fields such as health, retail, social science, and finance where the ability to interpret and manipulate large datasets is increasingly important. Graduates may become data scientists, statisticians, or analysts in industries as diverse as the technology, finance, healthcare, or government sectors. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
