MMath/MPhys (Hons) Mathematics and Physics

The MMath/MPhys Mathematics & Physics course is a combined degree course offered by the University of York, designed for individuals who have a keen interest in understanding how the physical universe operates. The course focuses on aspects like theoretical physics; astrophysics; quantum theory; statistical mechanics and programming. Course Content: Throughout the course, students will study modules from both the Departments of Mathematics and Physics. Students will spend three quarters of their time studying mathematics in their first year, with the remaining time devoted to physics. In the second year, students spend equal time studying both subjects. In the third and fourth years, students are given the option to shift their focus according to their interests.Key Modules: The course will cover modules like Calculus; Algebra; Quantum Mechanics; Theoretical Physics; Mathematical Methods in Physics; Programming for Physicists; Electromagnetism; Stellar Structure and Evolution; Relativity, Cosmology and Black Holes.Accreditations: This programme is recognised by both the Institute of Physics (IoP) and the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA).Future Careers: The course provides a strong foundation for careers in industries that particularly value graduates who are strong in both physics and mathematics, such as the space industry, software companies, financial sector, scientific civil service, and defence industries.
