MMath (Hons) Mathematics

The MMath Mathematics course is a four-year undergraduate programme at the University of York. It is designed to provide a deep knowledge of pure and applied mathematics, as well as statistics. The course has been developed to foster students with profound analytical thinking and problem-solving skills, making them suitable for a wide range of career paths.Course Content: The curriculum involves studying compulsory modules in the first two years, which provide a solid foundation in key mathematical concepts, methodologies and techniques. Afterward, third and fourth-year students will be able to choose from a variety of modules, tailoring their degree to their unique interests.Key Modules: Some of the key subjects range from Pure Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Probability, and Computational Mathematics. Later years of the course introduce more specialized modules such as Mathematical Finance, Theory of Complex Systems, Mathematical Biology, Cryptography, and others.Accreditations: The MMath Mathematics is fully accredited by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA). Upon graduation, this course can possibly contribute up to two years of the necessary education and experience needed for students to achieve Chartered Mathematician status.Future Careers: Graduates of the MMath Mathematics course have the potential to work in a variety of sectors. These include finance, technology companies, government departments, teaching, and academic research.
