The MA in Global Literature and Culture course at the University of York offers an in-depth exploration of the ways in which literature and culture interact in the global context. The course encourages the students to engage with the pressing questions of our time, equipping them with the tools necessary to critically analyse the world's challenges and opportunities.Course Content: The course primarily focuses on major global issues, interrogating the forces and movements that shape and are shaped by cultures and societies. Within this context, students will delve into discussions relating to power and resistance, tradition and innovation, as well as identity and difference. The course brings together a range of disciplinary approaches, including but not limited to, Literature, Film, Theatre, Television, History of Art, and Cultural Studies, allowing students to consider global interconnectivity from a variety of perspectives.Key Modules: Students of this course will study core modules such as 'Theorising Global Cultures', 'Global Activisms', and 'Global Genres' among others. Optional modules available for study include 'Postcolonial Literary Translation', 'Modernist Cultures', 'Cultural Memory: Memory, Visual Culture and the Holocaust', and 'Visual Culture and Empire'.
