The MA Global Development and Politics course at the University of York explores the political dimensions of development. It investigates how development processes are guided, negotiated and contested by different actors and groups. The students will be equipped with conceptual tools and practical skills necessary to engage with the politics of development in both the Global North and South.Course Content: This course provides students with a comprehensive understanding of contemporary debates in the field of development and global governance, engaging with academic, policy-oriented, and practitioner perspectives. The students will explore the main organisations, movements and ideas in international development, as well as the socio-economic, political, and environmental issues associated with global poverty, inequality and market-led development.Key Modules: This course includes modules on Global Political Economy, International Organisations in Global Politics, Global Governance, The Politics of Development, and Approaches and Methods in International Development, among others.Future Careers: The graduates are equipped with the skills and knowledge to work in a range of roles, such as research positions in international NGOs; civil service and government policy-making; ethical business and corporate social responsibility; international fieldwork; and consultancy and public affairs in private firms. Previous graduates have gone to work for organisations such as the Overseas Development Institute, the UN Development Programme, Save the Children, and the European Centre for Development Policy Management.
