The BSc Physics and Philosophy with a Year Abroad course at the University of York is a four-year full time program that combines study of Physics and Philosophy, while also providing an opportunity for students to spend a year studying abroad at a partner university. This course empowers students to develop the critical thinking skills to tackle both empirical and conceptual questions. Course Content: The course comprises three main components: Physics, Philosophy and the Year Abroad. In the first year, students study core modules in Physics and Philosophy. This builds a solid foundation for the second year, in which students pick optional modules in both subjects and prepare for working and studying in another country. Students spend their third year abroad at a chosen partner university where they can continue their studies in Physics and Philosophy. In the final year, students complete an independent research project in either Physics or Philosophy while taking a number of optional modules in both subjects. Key Modules: Key modules include Classical Mechanics, Lightning and Quarks, Electrical and Magnetic Properties of Materials, Concepts of Physics, Elements of Logic, Introduction to Metaphysics, Themes from Greek Philosophy, and Knowledge and Perception. Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Institute of Physics. Future Careers: Graduates of this course can pursue careers in a variety of fields including physics, engineering, finance, IT, education and more. Others choose to further their study and training in fields such as theoretical physics, quantum mechanics, philosophy, law and business.
