The BA History & Philosophy at the University of York provides an interdisciplinary approach to exploring and understanding the complexities of the human past and the nature of reality and existence. The course offers an opportunity for students to explore the biggest questions about life, gaining insight into different periods, cultures and knowledge traditions with a focus on the historical debate and philosophical enquiry.Course Content: The course integrates rigorous training in historical theory and skills with philosophy's core areas such as logic, philosophy of mind, ethics, philosophy of language, philosophy of science and epistemology. Students will explore case studies from the medieval period to the present, across a variety of cultures globally, and will be exposed to primary sources from early on, encouraging direct engagement with history and drawing their own interpretations.Key Modules: While studying the BA History & Philosophy students undertake key modules like Ethics, History: Craft and Skills, Foundations of Philosophy, Medieval Europe, and Aesthetics. They also engage in independent study on a philosophy or history topic that interests them in their final year, resulting in a fascinating dissertation under the guidance of experienced tutors.Future Careers: This program prepares students for a range of careers such as journalism, law, teaching, civil service, business and industry, museums and art organizations, NGOs, and the media.
