MSc Wireless and Optical Communications

The Wireless and Optical Communications MSc at University College London (UCL) is a comprehensive course designed to provide students with expertise in key areas of digital communications, wireless communications, optical communications, and related techniques. It offers students the chance to develop in-depth knowledge of the latest methodologies and systems and to enhance their skills through hands-on experience in labs.Course Content: The course spans over one year and focuses on topics such as mobile and optical communications, 5G communications, MVNO, IoT, AI applications in communications, and physical layer aspects of wireless and optical communications. Besides, it includes two compulsory research projects namely, a review dissertation (15 credits) and a research project (60 credits), which allow students to further explore their interest areas.Key Modules: The core modules include Communications Systems Modelling, Optical Transmission and Networks, Wireless Communications Principles, Mobile Communications Systems, and Dissertation on Any Communications Topic. There are other optional modules available such as Telecom Business Environment, Advanced Topics in Wireless Systems, and Optical Devices and Systems. Accreditations: This course is accredited by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).Future Careers: Upon graduation, students are equipped to work in diverse sectors such as fixed and mobile telecom carriers, equipment manufacturers, government bodies, consultancy firms, and start-ups.
