The MSc in Earthquake Engineering & Disaster Management is a comprehensive, full-time taught programme offered at UCL. This course provides an academic base to a professional career in areas such as earthquake engineering, disaster risk management and built environment. It is designed to assimilate and explore the technical and social aspects of earthquakes and other forms of risk. Course Content: The course combines modules that allow students to explore these aspects and also provides an opportunity to apply the knowledge and expertise gained to a practical or theoretical project. Earthquake and Disaster Management modules offer the scientific basis for understanding, assessing, mapping and managing the risk.Key Modules: The three core modules include: Earthquake Seismology & Earthquake Engineering, Principles and Practices of Earthquake Engineering & Disaster Management, and Integrated Building Design for Earthquake Risk Reduction. Besides these, a number of optional modules tailored to individual interests are available, such as GIS Principles & Technology, Seismic Design of Building Structures, Structural Analysis, and Structural Dynamic Analysis.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), the Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE), and the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) at the level of Further Learning for a Chartered Engineer (CEng).Future Careers: Graduates of this programme are equipped for employment in areas related with earthquake engineering, seismic risk assessment and management, disaster risk management, and engineering-related consulting practices. Many of our graduates have secured high niveau jobs in related areas and companies, while others follow an academic pathway. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page here.
