The Civil Engineering Structures MSc programme at UCL is designed to provide students with a solid understanding of the whole process of structural engineering, including design, construction, and serviceability. The course favors a holistic learning approach to provide a broader experience in addressing real-world challenges.Course Content: This one-year full-time MSc programme offers a broad and flexible curriculum that covers a wide range of topics. The teaching methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials, coursework, group projects, and independent research. The course layout is designed to equip students with an in-depth knowledge of structural engineering, strengthen their understanding of how structures function, and instil in them the skills needed to design, build, and maintain modern infrastructures. The course content is organized into four main sections: Foundation (Term One), Design (Term Two), Research (Term Three), and Integration (Summer).Key Modules: Key modules within the program include: Fundamental Principles of Structural Engineering, Analysis of Structures, Conceptual Design of Structures, Structural Scheme Design, and Structural Materials and Sustainability Problems. Each module has a different focus ranging from fundamental principles and analysis, to design and sustainability.Accreditations: This MSc program is accredited by the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM) consistent with requirements of the Engineering Council UK. This means students who successfully complete the program are technically equipped to seek Chartered Engineer (CEng) status.Future Careers: Upon completion of the programme, graduates are sufficiently prepared to undertake design and managerial roles in civil and structural engineering. They can potentially find employment in consultancy firms, construction companies, government agencies, NGOs, or further their research in a PhD programme. Some alumni have successfully entered careers in high-profile engineering firms.'For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.'
