The Fire Safe Design MSc course at UCL is a 12-month programme equipped to school students in fire safety engineering, introducing them to an international, yet holistic approach in design. This is a one-of-a-kind course designed to help transform student’s assumption about safety and fire prevention while providing tools that can lead to innovation and improved design.Course Content: The curriculum drives students to explore the inherent complexities of fire and how it affects different structures. The program encourages creative and original work while also emphasising acquisition of necessary research tools needed to innovate and improve designs. Students are expected to complete an individual research project and a group project that demonstrate the methods and theories underpinning fire safety engineering design principles.Key Modules: The Fire Safe Design course provides students important modules in the areas of Fire Dynamics, Fire Safety Risk Assessment, and Structural Behaviour in Fires. There are also modules in Fire Safety Design of Buildings and Risk Assessment of Structures to Fire which all contribute in building a significant knowledge and understanding of how to handle situations of actual fire emergencies.Accreditations: The program is accredited by the Institution of Fire Engineers, UK and has recognition from the Joint Board of Moderators (JBM).Future Careers: The graduates of this course gain an immediate competitive advantage, acquiring skills to take on roles in fire engineering consultancy, in a fire and rescue service or in companies involved in fire-related product development or services. They are also equipped to pursue a career in research to further expand their understanding and knowledge in the field. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
