The Architectural Design MArch at UCL is a full-time programme focused on the advanced design and theoretical study of architecture. Through a series of design projects, lectures, and seminars, the course encourages students to create a portfolio of advanced architectural design that concisely exhibits a mastery of complex design problems, new technologies, and an understanding of the contextual history and theory of architecture.Course Content: The curriculum is taught through design projects, which comprise 60% of the total marks, with the remaining 40% coming from modules in the history and theory of architecture. During the course, students will undertake a sequence of speculative and real design projects either within a certain unit or in collaboration with academic staff who are chosen for their expertise in a particular area of study. Key Modules: The course consists of three key modules: ARE1ADMA90 Design Thesis (90 credits), ARE1ADM030 Architectural History and Theory (30 credits), and ARE1ADM060 Case Studies (60 credits), which together form a comprehensive architectural design teaching framework.Accreditations: This programme is not formally accredited by any professional body. However, the school participates in the visiting boards for architectural education operated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) and Architects Registration Board (ARB) in the UK.Future Careers: Graduates can find career opportunities in architectural practice, higher level teaching, or in buildings-related and design-intensive industries.
