The Special and Inclusive Education: Autism MA course at UCL is a specialized programme that provides an in-depth understanding of the field of education for children and young people with autism and Asperger syndrome. It aims to aid students in developing expertise in current thinking regarding autism education, including a critical understanding of theories and the ability to apply these in any setting where children and young people with autism and Asperger syndrome are taught.Course Content: The course involves study over one year for full-time students, and two to five years for those studying part-time. It explores critical thinking about the notion of autism and implications of educational theories for understanding inclusion and diversity in education. The course also covers a variety of different research methods, preparing you to understand and employ research and enquiry techniques in the field of autism and education. Key Modules: Important modules include Understanding Research Methods and Understanding Inclusion: Policy, School and Community, Understanding Autism and Learning, Autism and Education (PG Dip), and either a Report of a Research Project or Critical Literature Review for the Master’s Dissertation.Accreditations: This course has been recognized by the Economic and Social Research Council as providing high-quality research training, and it may be used as the preparatory course for a PhD in the field of inclusive education.Future Careers: Completion of the course prepares students for various careers, including advisory and management roles in education, multi-professional and multi-agency teams that support pupils with special education needs, and research.
