The Political Sociology of Russia and Eastern Europe MA is a comprehensive graduate course offered by UCL School of Slavonic and East European Studies. This course provides an in-depth analysis of the political sociology of Russia, Ukraine, Eastern Europe, Eurasia and the Arctic, with emphasis on the intersection of politics and society in these regions. It offers an integrated approach to theory, methods, and several empirical case studies, allowing students to understand the social basis of politics and the political basis of society.Course Content: The course is divided into two parts - Core Course and Dissertation. The Core Course covers the concepts, theories and methodologies on the political sociology of Russia and Eastern Europe. The Dissertation enables students to carry out a piece of independent research under the guidance of a member of the SSEES academic staff.Key Modules: Key modules include State and Society in Russia and Eastern Europe; Political Sociology of Russia and Eastern Europe; and Research Methods, which covers the quantitative and qualitative research methods necessary for their dissertations.Future Careers: The MA programme develops essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and communication which are invaluable in a wide range of careers. Graduates acquire an expertise that can lead to opportunities in academic, public, and private sectors. Careers include working in NGOs, the European Institutions, and businesses which require detailed knowledge of the region.
