The Linguistics with Specialisation in Syntax MA course at UCL is designed for students who have an interest in both theories of syntax and semantics, and also in empirical research in areas such as psycholinguistics, neurolinguistics, cognitive linguistics, first and second language acquisition and the study of language disorders. The programme is suitable for students with a background in linguistics, cognitive science, psychology, computer science or related fields, who are interested in a deeper understanding of language structure from a cognitive perspective, its interaction with conceptual meaning and its expression in the physical/loudspeaker space. Course Content: This course covers a range of topics in both theoretical and experimental syntax and research methods. The topics covered include Principles and Parameters syntax, Lexical-Functional grammar; formal semantic theory; the syntax of a range of specific languages; experimental and corpus-based syntax; and Centre for Applied Linguistics research seminars.Key Modules: Modules the students will take include: Core Issues in Syntax, Formal Syntax, Research Methodology: Principles and Practice in Experimental Linguistics, and two optional modules. Future Careers: Graduates of this program are equipped with a range of skills and knowledge that enables them to undertake professional work, continue with further research or research-oriented jobs in fields like neurolinguistics, cognitive neuroscience, language engineering (Natural Language Processing), after-sales service for language technology software, etc. Over 90% of UCL Linguistics graduates are employed or continue with further studies within six months of graduation.For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
