MA Education (Literacy)

The Education (Literacy) MA course offered by UCL Institute of Education (IOE) is a blend of theory and practice designed to deepen students' understanding of literacy learning and teaching. This course is useful for students with interest in the different dimensions of literacy, be it societal, pedagogical, or cognitive; opening up avenues for significant career enhancement in the education sector.Course Content: The course consists of a number of engaging concepts and modules, from exploring literacy through to more complex aspects such as literacy theories, evaluation of education policy, and literacy for social justice. The course includes coursework assignments and a final dissertation that serves as a culmination to the learning experience.Key Modules: The core components of the course are: Literacy Theories, Reading Recovery Theory for Teachers, Reading and Writing Difficulties: Classroom Approaches, Children's Literature in Childhood, Literacy and Learning in and out of Schools, Understanding Spoken and Written Language Difficulties, and a Dissertation in Literacy.
