BA Spanish and Latin

The Spanish and Latin American Studies BA at University College London (UCL) is a full-time, four-year course that provides a comprehensive understanding of the Spanish language, and an in-depth insight into the diverse cultures of Spain and Latin America. The programme ensures that students become proficient in spoken and written Spanish while broadening their cultural understanding.Course Content: The course provides a foundation in both language and content, advancing as the student progresses. The first year aims to improve language skills and offers exposure to Spanish and Latin American cultural studies. The second year takes a more in-depth look at Spanish and Latin American cultures and institutions. Students will spend their third year abroad in a Spanish-speaking country, enhancing their language skills and cultural exposure. The final year is an exploration of specific areas of interest chosen by the student.Key Modules: Key modules include Spain and Latin America: Text and Context, Language in use, Images and Representations of the Spanish World, Spanish Language and Society, Images of Spain: 1898-1936, and an array of optional modules such as Literary masterpieces of the Spanish Golden Age, Poetry of modernity in Latin America and Twentieth-Century Spanish Fiction.Future Careers: Graduates from this course have gone on to enjoy careers in areas such as international organisations, management consultancy, publishing, teaching, translating, the media and the arts.
