The Scandinavian Studies with Film Studies BA at UCL offers students an opportunity to combine the study of two distinct but complementary subjects. The programme allows the development of an in-depth understanding of Scandinavian culture, society, history and literature intertwined with a comprehensive study of film studies. Reviewing films from various genres, periods, and geographies, students acquire advanced skills in the analysis of film, while furthering their knowledge and understanding of languages spoken in Scandinavia.Course Content: In the first year, students take two foundational modules in Danish, Norwegian or Swedish which provide an intense introduction to the languages and cultures of the area. In the second and third years, students pursue advanced language study and take modules in Scandinavian literature, history and culture. Students also undertake modules in Film Studies, starting with 'Introduction to Film Studies', 'World Cinema' and 'Working with Film and Video'. In the latter part of the course, options range from 'French and German Cinema' to 'Screenwriting', 'Experimental Film' and 'Documentary in East Asia', amongst others.Future Careers: Graduates of this course have found professions relating to their degree such as magazine editors, creative executives, associate producers, film programme coordinators, and personal assistants.
