The Russian and East European Languages BA is a 4-year degree program offered by University College London's School of Slavonic and East European Studies. The program's unique focus allows students to develop an advanced knowledge of Russian or another East European language while gaining a comprehensive understanding of the region's culture, society, and history. Course Content: The first year of study encompasses intensive language training, with the option to study Russian, Romanian, Polish, or Serbian/Croatian. Alongside learning the language, students delve into modules exploring the culture, society and history of the region. Year two further develops language skills and deepens students' understanding of historical and contemporary issues in Russia and Eastern Europe. In year three, students spend a year abroad in a country where their chosen language is spoken, allowing for direct immersion and further linguistic development. The final year back at UCL allows students to concentrate on specific areas of interest within the region. Key Modules: The program includes key modules like "Introduction to Russian Literature," "Nation, Identity and Power in Central and Eastern Europe," "SSEES Undergraduate Language," and "History of Southeast Europe". Future Careers: Graduates of the Russian and East European Languages BA often find employment in areas such as journalism, diplomacy, non-governmental organizations, European or international administration, commerce, teaching, and translation. They have also pursued further studies at Master's and PhD levels. For more information on this course, please visit the official course page.
