The Russian and Spanish BA at UCL provides students with the opportunity to acquire or develop their language skills while gaining an understanding of the culture and society of the countries where these languages are spoken. This course encourages proficiency in Russian and Spanish while emphasizing a multicultural perspective.Course Content: During the first two years of the programme, students split their time equally between both languages. They choose from a range of culture modules and language modules such as Russian and Spanish translation skills, contemporary Russian and Spanish cinema, and the history and culture of Russia and Spain. Students spend their third year abroad, either studying, teaching, or on a work placement in a Russian- or Spanish-speaking country. In the final year, students will continue to improve their language expertise and can delve deeper into their interests through the choice of optional modules.Key Modules: Some highlighted modules in this course include: Modern Language Plus, The Making of Modern Russia, Introduction to Russian Film, Spanish Cinema: The Basics, and Text and Performance in Latin America. Future Careers: After completing this course, students might choose a career where language skills and intercultural competence are required. Graduates have entered a wide range of professions including but not limited to banking, journalism, marketing, publishing, research, teaching and translation work.
