BA Language and Culture

The Language and Culture BA course offered at UCL (University College London) is a full-time, three years long undergraduate program. This unique course provides students an opportunity to closely study one or two languages (out of possible nine options) and their cultures. Diverse course materials, field trips, and integrated teaching methods prepare students to be culturally sensitive language experts.Course Content: The core curriculum covers various topics such as linguistics, cultural products, trends in contemporary culture, translation studies, interpreting, and more. Students study it through a culture-specific lens, using the languages chosen. The course timetable is divided into contact hours, independent study, and assessment activities spread across the week.Key Modules: The course comprises compulsory modules including Modern Languages modules and translation modules. Additionally, opportunity to choose optional modules from an extensive range enables students to tailor the program as per their academic interests. Languages offered include Dutch, French, German, Italian, Mandarin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Swedish.
