The Icelandic BA at UCL offers an opportunity for students to immerse themselves in the Icelandic language, literature, and culture. The course incorporates intensive language learning with a wide range of historical and cultural modules.Course Content: Emphasis is placed on the study of the Old Norse-Icelandic sagas - important medieval texts that are a central part of western cultural heritage and offer insights into the origin of many aspects of contemporary culture. The course thoroughly examines the grammatical structure of Modern Icelandic, its syntax, morphology, and phonetics, as well as its literature.Key Modules: Students follow a structured path that incorporates modules in Icelandic Language, Texts, and Contexts. The first year focuses on foundational language skills and studies the development of Icelandic literature. In the second year, students continue their language studies while exploring the sagas, the prose and poetry of the old Icelandic period.
