The German and History BA is an innovative undergraduate programme offered by University College London (UCL). Over the course of four years, students examine a wide range of historical eras, regions, cultures, and ideas from contemporary times back to the middle ages, while also gaining a sophisticated level of understanding in the German language and German-speaking cultures. Course Content: Students spend their first two years improving German fluency through language modules, as well as studying a range of topics including German literature, linguistics, history, and culture. Additionally, they take the core History modules in historiography and choosing options from a wide range of historical periods and themes. The third year is typically spent abroad, allowing the students to immerse themselves in German culture and language. In the final year, students again split time between History and German with a variety of modules to select from both disciplines. Key Modules: Essential modules for this course include German Studies and German Language, along with historical modules like Making History, Debates and Methods in History, The Public Historian and the Dissertation in History. Future Careers: Graduates from the German and History BA have a wide range of career possibilities, such as translation, interpretation, teaching, public relations, international business, government service, publishing, and tourism.
