The French BA at University College London (UCL) is a three or four year undergraduate course that focuses on French language, literature, and culture. The course enables students to develop excellent language skills while exploring topics such as French and Francophone literature, cinema, culture, and the nature of language itself. Course Content: In the first two years, modules cover grammar, translation and spoken use of the language, as well as period-based study of literature and thought from the middle ages to the present day. In the third year, areas of study can include: European literature, thought and culture, French and Francophone literature, thought and culture; linguistics; film; and advanced-level modules in language, literature and cinema. Students may also opt for the four-year course which includes a year abroad.Key Modules: The key modules in this course in the first year include 'Introduction to French Studies', 'French Language', and 'French Texts and Contexts'. In the second year, students continue 'French Language' and study 'Options in French Literature and Culture'. For those following the four-year course, the third year is spent abroad.
