The BA Programme in Bulgarian and Norwegian at UCL is a four-year combined degree dedicated to offering a thorough grounding in both languages' language, history, culture, and literatures. The course is designed for students with little or no prior knowledge of the languages. It provides them with the opportunity to achieve advanced skills in both Bulgarian and Norwegian language and a broad understanding of the culture and history of Bulgaria, Norway, and other Slavic and Scandinavian countries.Course Content: The course spans over four years with the third year spent abroad in either Bulgaria or Norway. The students begin with an intensive grounding in the chosen languages and then approach comparatively the histories, cultures, and literatures of the countries where those languages are spoken. The course allows students to enhance their linguistic competencies and cultural understanding, research, and essay writing skills through the study of language, literature, history, and culture.Key Modules: The course offers modules such as Intensive Bulgarian Language for Beginners, Intensive Norwegian Language for Beginners, History, and Culture of the Balkans, History, and Culture of the Scandinavian countries, Transnational Literature: Migration, Diaspora, and Literary Engagement in Modern Europe, and many more.Future Careers: This degree provides a range of transferable skills, which opens career opportunities in a wide variety of sectors such as international organizations, NGOs, media and journalism, business, teaching, translating or interpreting, tourism, or any profession that requires good language skills.
