BA Bulgarian and Dutch

The Bulgarian and Dutch BA offered by University College London (UCL) is a four-year course designed for those interested in both languages and cultures. Students will be able to achieve near-native proficiency in Bulgarian and Dutch, gain a deep understanding of their cultural contexts and histories, and develop their intercultural awareness.Course Content: The program starts with an intense language and culture foundation in both Bulgarian and Dutch during the first year. When students progress to the second year, they will focus more on studying literature, film, linguistics, history, and politics. The third year is typically spent abroad—for this course, half a year in the Netherlands and half in Bulgaria. In the final year, students will accomplish an independent research project in either Bulgarian or Dutch discipline.Key Modules: While the course offers a comprehensive study of both language areas, some of the key modules include “Introduction to Dutch Language”, “Bulgarian A: Grammar and Texts”, “Dutch Literature and Society”, and “Bulgarian B: Translation, Linguistic Structures, and Essay-writing”.Future Careers: Graduates from this course typically pursue a broad range of careers. Some have chosen to work in various fields within areas such as international organisations, education, translation and interpretation, diplomacy, or business.
