The Undergraduate Music with Italian course at Royal Holloway offers a combination of music and Italian, providing students with the opportunity to explore two disciplines that are closely linked. This course is a three years program that includes a year abroad in Italy.Course Content: The course includes a comprehensive study of genres, styles and periods in music alongside Italian language and culture. In the first year, students study a wide range of musical styles, learning about the basics of harmony and counterpoint. From the second year, students have the opportunity to study more specialized topics such as film music, opera, and Italian and German symphony. The course also requires students to improve their Italian to the level of proficient user (C1) of the Common European Framework.Key Modules: Some of the key areas explored in this course include Music and its Contexts, Aesthetics and Criticism, Harmony and Counterpoint, Advanced Italian, Italian culture and society, among others.Future Careers: The combination of music and a modern foreign language have a wide range of applications in today's world.
