BA Modern Languages and History

The Modern Languages and Greek course at Royal Holloway, University of London allows students to gain proficiency in a modern language while opening up the world of ancient Greece, from its mythology to its language, from Herodotus to Homer. Over the duration of the course, students can choose to study French, German, Italian or Spanish, alongside ancient Greek.Course Content: The course blends modern language training with the study of Greek. It helps students develop a sound understanding of Greek literature, philosophy and society. Students will continually improve their chosen language skills, with year-long language modules in every year of their degree. Key Modules: Some key study areas include Greek language, literature, Greek Tragedy, Epic etc. in the ancient Greek part of the course; while the modern languages part includes language and society, cultural identities, and intermediate oral and written skills. Future Careers: The course prepares students for a range of careers, with alumni moving into fields such as the civil service, teaching, business, and finance, as well as becoming translators and interpreters.
