The MChem Chemistry for Drug Discovery course at the University of Bath provides an understanding of the chemical principles that underpin drug discovery and development. This cutting-edge course combines traditional teaching methods with hands-on experience in research and industry settings. Developed in response to industrial needs for graduates who can apply chemical knowledge to drug discovery, it prepares students for a career in the pharmaceutical industry, or for undertaking a PhD.Course Content: The course offers an understanding of the chemistry and mechanisms of drug actions, governance in drug discovery and medicinal chemistry, drug design and optimisation, practical synthesis and characterization as well as the fundamentals of cancer chemotherapy. First two years allow to build a strong foundation in different areas of chemistry. In the final years, students specialize in drug discovery, and spend a year working on a major research project.Key Modules: Core modules of the course are: Foundations of Chemistry, Organic and Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biological Chemistry, New Drug Discovery, and Research Project.Accreditations: The MChem Chemistry for Drug Discovery course is accredited by the Royal Society of Chemistry.Future Careers: Graduates have a solid foundation for a career in the pharmaceutical industry.
