Biomedical Sciences MBiomed (Hons)

The MSci (Hons) Biomedical Sciences with Professional Placement course at the University of Bath is a full-time course lasting for five years. This under-graduate course represents a deep dive into the science that underpins medicine and explores the basis of human disease. The course also incorporates a one-year professional placement currently held in industry, a research institute, NHS hospital, or with an overseas partner university.Course Content: The course content is divided into a 4-tier structure. The first year covers the fundamental biological principles of biomedical sciences. The second year expands on these principles. A dedicated placement year is followed by a third academic year that delves deeper into understanding of specific disease processes. The final year expands these principles to integrate further with clinical and public health aspects. Key Modules: Some of the key modules include Core Biochemistry, Molecular Cell Biology, Human Physiology, Pharmacology, Research Project, Clinical Biomedical Science, Advanced Neurosciences and others. Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology (RSB) for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the membership and chartered biologist (CBiol).Future Careers: Graduates of this course have a broad range of career options. They may pursue research in the pharmaceutical industry, hospitals, or at universities. Job titles of recent graduates include Research Scientist, Biomedical Scientist, and Microbiologist.
