MSc Geographic Information and Climate Change

  • Description

The MSc Geographic Information and Climate Change course offered by Swansea University provides students with the unique opportunity to study two highly relevant areas of contemporary theory and practice. This full-time, 12-month program blends critical understanding of climatic change and its environmental effects, with the proficient usage of geographic information systems (GIS).

Course Content: The course structure is divided into two parts. The first part consists of a series of modules that are designed to develop students' skills in key areas such as Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing, climate change impacts, modelling and vulnerability assessment, and environmental law. The second part is centred around a research project that may include components of overseas fieldwork, allowing students to apply the experience they have learned in real-world settings.

Key Modules: Some key modules of the course include but are not limited to Earth Observation and GIS for the Environment, Cities and Climate Change, Principles of GIS, Climate Change, and Human Responses.

Accreditations: The program is accredited by the Royal Geographical Society (RGS).

Future Careers: This course provides an excellent base for those wishing to pursue a career focused on climate change and its impacts on society and the environment, integrating GIS skills, and for those interested in entering environmental consultancy, government research, the civil service, or further academic study.
