Biochemistry BSc (Hons) at Swansea University is an undergraduate course designed to provide a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of biochemistry. Students will gain an understanding of the chemical processes that take place in living organisms, learn how to solve biological problems and plan work programmes. The course provides a good blend of practical work, including lab-based learning and project work, along with more traditional teaching methods, such as lectures, seminars, and tutorials.Course Content: The course features a variety of topics, including biochemistry and genetics, medical case study, biochemistry and molecular biology, metabolism and disease, and similar biochemical subjects. The course is designed to introduce students to the molecular mechanisms underpinning human health and disease while developing their understanding and knowledge in a wide range of biochemistry topics. Key Modules: Some of the key modules that students can expect to study include Medical Biochemistry, Metabolic Biochemistry, Gene Expression and Development, Cellular and Molecular Pathology, and Molecular Pharmacology.Accreditations: The course is accredited by the Royal Society of Biology for the purpose of meeting in part the academic and experience requirement for the Membership and Chartered Biologist (CBiol). Future Careers: Graduates of this course can expect to find employment opportunities in areas such as clinical biochemistry, genetic counselling, forensic science, pharmaceuticals, quality control, and medical research. Some students may also choose to pursue higher education, such as a Master’s or PhD, in Biochemistry or a closely related field.
